Juanita May (Steele) Dodson, 89, of Independence, Mo., passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at her home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd. Kansas City, MO 64138. A visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.

Juanita was born on March 30, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo. to Elmer and Hazel J. (Duncanson) Steele. She was united in marriage on August 7, 1949, to Joey C. Dodson in Eudora, Mo. Together they had five children.

Juanita was a foster parent to many children over the years. Her and Joey enjoyed their time with the senior citizens Jolly 60’s and the Lamplighters. She spent lots of time at the Fairmount Community Center in her free time. But her favorite thing was spending time with her family.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband Joey in 2010; her parents; siblings, Alice Steele, Kenneth Steele, Melvin Steele, and Martha Edwards; her daughter- in- law, Peggy Dodson; and her grandchildren, J.C. Dodson and Kathy Dodson. She is survived by her children, Joey C. Dodson Jr., Sandra Dodson, Larry Dodson and his wife Linda, Michael Dodson and his wife Carmen, Sharon Heinrichs and her husband Ray, and many foster children who she loved as her own; 13 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
