Here's where you can take your old tree for disposal.

Christmas is past, but for many people in Eastern Jackson County, the tree remains.

According to John McConnell, general manager of the Courtney-Ridge Recycling Center in Sugar Creek, most people don’t dispose of their trees until after the new year.

“We’re pretty slow on the holidays,” McConnell said. “But we do have quite a few after the first of the year.”

There are two locations in the area for Christmas tree disposal –  one that is free and one that charges a fee. In Blue Springs, Christmas trees may be dropped off for free at Pink Hill Park, 2715 Park Road. The phone number is 816-228-0137.

In Sugar Creek, the Courtney-Ridge Recycling Center, 2001 N. Missouri 291, charges a minimum fee of $45 per ton plus taxes and fees for all yard waste including Christmas trees. Their hours are 5 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Jan. 3.
