Beaches and barbecues were on the minds of residents this weekend as the South Shore of Massachusetts got an early taste of summer. 

Beaches and barbecues were the places to be over the weekend as the South Shore got an early taste of summer. Temperatures in the mid-80s are expected to return Tuesday with more seasonable highs around 60 degrees later this week.

Record-high temperatures were set both Saturday and Sunday at the Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory in Milton. Saturday’s high of 83 degrees surpassed the previous record of 80 set in 1942. And on Sunday, the temperature hit 84, beating the previous record of 83 set in 1908.
