Thurl C. “Mac” McNeill, 86, Independence, Mo., passed away Friday, April 26, 2013.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon April 30, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence; interment with Full Military Honors will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Crown Pointe Church Building Fund, 5950 N.E. Lakewood Way, Lee’s Summit, MO 64064.

Thurl was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Creswell, Ark., and moved to the Kansas City area in 1948. He worked at Foremost Foods for thirty-two years and retired in 1981. He then worked as a security guard at Independence Regional Health Center until 1990. He was a member of Teamsters Local #41. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign in World War II, where he earned the rank of sergeant in the Military Police. He was a member of Crown Pointe Church for over fifty years. He was a huge sports fan of the Chiefs and the Royals. He also loved traveling to beaches and the ocean. Most of all, he loved his family. Thurl was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy McNeill of the home; daughters, Teresa Curry and husband, Michael, Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Sherri Dade, Independence, Mo.; son, Gary McNeill and wife, Kris, Independence, Mo.; grandchildren, Brett Curry and wife, Allison, Weatherby Lake, Mo., Bethany Hess and husband, Wayne, Overland Park, Kan., Brandon Curry and wife, Ali, Independence, Mo., Kara Bruner and husband, Matt, Mission Hills, Kan., and Laura Kackley and husband, Craig, Sarah Butler and husband, Matt, and Kimberlee Lamming and husband, Zack, all of Independence, Mo.; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members.
