Reece Eddins has started the American Legion baseball where he left off the high school season.

Eddins, who helped lead Blue Springs South to the Class 5 quarterfinals, had a big night Wednesday to spark Blue Springs Post 499/Fike to a 7-5, 11-1 sweep of the host Sedalia Post 642 Travelers.

Eddins doubled and tripled with an RBI in the 7-5 win in Game 1 of the Zone 2 East doubleheader. In the 11-1 nightcap, he had two hits and drove in four runs while throwing a five-inning three-hitter on the mound.

Fike scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a 5-5 tie and win the first game. Dominic DeFeo drove in a run with a suicide squeeze bunt and Carson Messner drove in the other run with a fielder’s choice to put Post 499 ahead.

Alex Smith picked up the win. Nick Mertes had three hits and an RBI, and Dylan Farrell led off the seventh with a triple.

In the second game, Fike (4-1, 2-0 Zone 2 East) scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to end it early on the mercy rule. DeFeo had two hits and three RBIs, Farrell had two hits and an RBI and Messner had a hit and two RBIs to support Eddins.

LEE’S SUMMIT HAWTHORN BANK OUTLAWS 13-12, LEE’S SUMMIT POST 189 PIRATES 6-1: The Outlaws pounded out 33 hits in a doubleheader sweep of the Pirates to improve to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Zone 2 West play.

Herb Byers went 2-for-4 with six RBIs to power the Outlaws to the 13-6 win in the first game. He hit a bases-loaded triple and a three-run homer.

Quentin Bradford added a solo homer and Seth Soto went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the Outlaws totaled 15 hits. P.J. Seufert struck out seven in six innings for the win.

Quinton Lewis went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Connor Claxton had two RBIs to lead the Pirates.

In Game 2, Brett Conrow went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Bradford, Dalton Woods, Alec Schuler each added two hits and two RBIs as the Outlaws amassed 18 hits in the 12-1 win in six innings. Soto allowed two hits and struck out eight in five innings for the win.

Jacob Stadler drove in the lone run for the Pirates.
