The Blue Springs girls golf team opened the season with a strong showing.

Mariah Peters finished second in the medalist’s race with a 75 Wednesday at the par-71 Liberty Hills Country Club course as the Wildcats totaled 346 to place second out of 16 teams. Notre Dame de Sion prevailed with 329. Kearney’s Chandler Gallagher was the medalist with a 67.

Jailyn Marshall shot 84 for seventh place overall, Mady Acers 90, Hannah Reynolds 97 and Cassie Cloninger 113 for Blue Springs.

“I was thrilled with our team play today,” coach Jill Courter said. “Everyone of our girls exceeded my expectations for our first tournament. It was extremely hot, and our first 18 holes walked with the new heat rules in place.

“I’m really proud of how well they handled the entire day and know we are excited to have gotten our first competition in.”
