Two doubles victories clinched Blue Springs South’s 6-3 Suburban Big Six victory over Lee’s Summit Tuesday.
Erica McClain (6-0, 6-0), Bella Bowling (6-3, 6-2), Emily Conaty (7-5, 6-0) and Tiffany Davenport (6-3, 6-2) triumphed in singles for the Jaguars. Doubles winners were Remy Davenport and Tiffany Davenport (6-2, 6-2) and McClain and Conaty (6-3, 6-2).
“We saw great play from all six girls,” said South coach Jake Estep. “From top to bottom, the girls hit well and showed they are ready for what this conference has to throw at them.”
South rolled 9-0 in the junior varsity match.
GRAIN VALLEY 8, HARRISONVILLE 1: Grain Valley clinched at least a tie for its sixth-consecutive Missouri River Valley Conference title with the home victory.
Kayelee Smith (8-2), Hannah Wiechmann (8-0), Darby Scharfenkamp (8-2), Chelsea Gabriel (8-6), and Mikki Sickel (8-0) were Grain Valley singles winners. Nathalia Barr and Smith (8-2), Scharfenkamp and Wiechmann (8-0) and Gabriel and Sickel (8-0) prevailed in doubles.
“We lost a tough one at No. 1 singles but came back and took care of business,” said Grain Valley coach Randy Draper.
A victory over Odessa or Excelsior Springs next week clinches an undisputed conference title for the Eagles.
Grain Valley breezed 9-0 in the junior varsity match.
WILLIAM CHRISMAN 8, NORTH KANSAS CITY 1: William Chrisman swept all the singles matches on its way to an 8-1 victory Tuesday at North Kansas City.
Gentry Laughlin and Mikaela Rodriguez managed 8-6 wins in the top two singles slots, while Alyssa Pritchard won 8-3, Jasmine Steeple and Elizabeth Start each won 8-2 and Kinya Ross scored an 8-5 win.
In doubles play, Pritchard and Steeple won 8-4 at No. 2, while Stark and Ross managed an 8-6 win at No. 3.
North Kansas City’s junior varsity was a 6-3 winner.
LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 9, RAYMORE-PECULIAR: The visiting Broncos garnered an easy Suburban Big Six win Tuesday to improve to 11-1 overall
Camryn Parnell (6-0, 6-1), Vilune Sestokaite (6-0, 6-0), Jenny Krause (6-0, 6-2), Alyson Moore (6-0, 6-0), Beta Lear (6-1, 6-1) and Sarah Welsh (6-0, 6-2) triumphed in singles for the Broncos, who improved to 2-0 in the Big Six. Sestokaite and Moore (6-0, 6-1), Krause and Lehr (6-2, 6-1) and Welsh and Emily Kershner (6-2, 6-1) were doubles winners.
“We had very consistent tennis by the girls tonight, and they are such coachable kids that it makes it a lot of fun for me as a coach,” North coach Stu Reece said.
North also was a 9-0 junior varsity winner.
FORT OSAGE 8, BELTON 1: The host Indians were rarely challenged in their Suburban Middle Six win Tuesday.
Emily Shinoda (10-2), Ashley Hahne (10-5), Maranda Harris (10-0), Elizabeth Shade (10-3) and Jessica Willey (10-0) all were singles winners for Fort Osage. Shade and Micah Neale won 10-0 at No. 3 doubles while Shinoda and Hahne won 10-2 at No. 2 and Arti Church and Harris recorded a 10-4 victory at No. 1.
Fort Osage also won in junior varisity play, 6-0.
