Well, I hate to share this but it is the week of the toilets at our house. They are going to begin smashing out my master bath shower in preparation for a new tile shower but the most exciting thing is that I am probably going to get two new toilets.

When we built this house 20 years ago we bought the trendy, small toilets that supposedly saved water for an energy thing. All they actually did was get you sitting on them and they were so close to the ground you had to have help getting up. So now we are going to have taller toilets that flush so fast you still have to have help. I am very happy, however, because I can get off of them without a problem.

I would think that within a month or so the house will be finished and it time to begin the decorating, pictures, curtains, and other things to make it real pretty. It is really becoming attractive and comfortable and I will enjoy it much more this winter than last.

The kitchen is gorgeous and so fun to work in. The problem is I hate to cook because it messes up the kitchen, but am kind of getting over that. I made up a batch of an old recipe last week end and the grandkids loved it as much as their parents did when they were kids.

It was a recipe that I made up in an emergency and it became a household favorite. I had stewed a chicken and made noodles one Sunday. When we were finished I put the broth and noodles in a bowl, took the chicken off the bones and refrigerated it for the next day’s leftovers.

When mealtime came we had company show up. I waited for a while thinking they would leave but realized I was going to have to come up with a meal. I had two pounds of hamburger in the refrigerator so began browning and crumbling it. Then added the chicken broth, chicken and noodles. Added a can of mushrooms and peas and covered the top with Parmesan cheese. It was delicious.

Next problem was a doozy because they kids a week later wanted another batch. Well, I was not up to stewing a chicken and going through all that so did the hamburger, added two envelopes of the powdered chicken noodle soup mix and mixed it up well. I added a can or two of chicken broth (water will work well also) and mixed it again.

Then I added some cooked egg noodles, peas, mushrooms and covered it with the Parmesan cheese. It is really a great meal and just as good warmed over the next day.

It is a true test when the grandkids love it as well.

Good Butter Cake

1 box yellow cake mix 1 stick oleo 1 egg 8 ounces cream cheese 2 eggs 1 box powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix first three items. Pat into greased 9 x 13 pan. Mix cream cheese, egg, powdered sugar and vanilla. Pour over the patted layer of cake and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. When cooked, cut into squares. Serve with whipping cream.
