Independence and Union Pacific police will be watching closely on Wednesday for rail crossing violators.

It’s part of Operation Life Saver, which is designed to increase awareness of the danger from violating railroad crossing signals and to reduce rail crossing crashes.

The Independence Police Traffic Safety Unit and the Union Pacific Police Department will take part in the enforcement along rail crossings in Independence from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

In the last two years three people have been seriously injured and one person killed in rail crossing traffic collisions in Independence.
