A man has been charged and taken into custody in a Blue Springs shooting on Monday.

Mandel L. Perkins, 40, of Blue Springs, was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action on Wednesday. He was arrested Wednesday.

According to court documents, Blue Springs police found a victim who had been shot three times in a garage of a duplex in the 1100 block of Northwest First Street at 3:16 p.m. Monday.

Blue Springs police later talked to the victim, who was being treated for non-life threatening injuries at a hospital.

Acccording to the court documents, the victim described what happened this way:

He told police that Perkins and his wife were present at the time of the shooting. The victim was supposed to be selling drugs in order to pay his rent, but at the time did not  have money he owed Perkins.

Perkins and the victim exchanged words inside the duplex’s garage and the victim became upset and told Perkins to leave. Perkins turned and began to walk away from the exchange, but he then turned around and started shooting at the victim and then fled.

Prosecutors have requested a $150,000 bond at 10 percent for Perkins.
