To the editor:

It is my privilege to endorse Jim Schultz for the mayor of Independence in the upcoming April 8 election. Jim has spent the biggest part of his life in Independence, attended Independence public schools, raised a family, manages a successful business, attends a local church, is a member and past president of the Independence Kiwanis Club and has supported many of the important programs affecting the lives of a wide range of age groups in the city of Independence.

He has served 12 years as a member of the Independence City Council as a council member at large with the past four years serving as the mayor pro tem. Jim has an abundance of experience and the skills needed to direct this city government. He is a good listener and is compassionate about the welfare of the citizens of this community. While a member of the City Council, Jim has supported the development of the Palmer Senior Center, a new athletic complex, the Independence Events Center and the bus transit center. Because of his compassion for the welfare of others, Jim has worked in helping to establish the Independence Hungry and Homeless Coalition and in the development of western Independence.

I have known Jim and his family for more than 40 years and I am impressed by his dedication to the betterment of this community. On April 8, I would encourage you to vote for Jim Schultz, mayor of Independence.
