The 24th annual "Festival of Color" Youth Art Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 5 and noon to 4 p.m. April 6 at the Roger T. Sermon Community Center, Truman and Noland roads, Independence. The show is sponsored by the Citizen's Civic and Cultural Committee in cooperation with the Independence Parks & Recreation Department.

The following high schools have entered the show: Blue Springs, Blue Springs South, Fort Osage, Grain Valley, Truman, Van Horn and William Chrisman.

Larry Randall, a retired Blue Springs art teacher, will be the judge this year.

The Independence Arts Association will also be displaying art at this event and will assist with hanging and makes awards as well. This event is in honor of Roger T. Sermon Jr., who was active in getting the show started and left an endowment to help make it happen. It is unusual in that the students receive money prizes, which are often used to pay for their art supplies to create more work.
