In "Other Voices" (Examiner, June 3), the editorial staff of the Baltimore Sun said that: "We shouldn't let school districts opt out of nutritional standards just because they're inconvenient any more (than) we'd expect them to stop teaching algebra because it's hard." I disagree. If the Obama administration came out in favor of teaching algebra, a majority of congressional Republicans would rise united in vocal opposition.

Unfortunately, in today's political arena, benefits to the nation are much less important than assailing any proposal put forth by the other party.
