Solar energy, energy efficiency and local electric service issues are on the agenda of a forum in Independence.

It’s at 10 a.m. Saturday at the North Independence branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library at U.S. 24 and Spring Street.

Three speakers are scheduled:

• Paul Snider of Brightenergy, a solar energy company based in Kansas City.

• Joe Spease, CEO of WindSoHy, which is involved in wind and solar projects.

• Geoff Marke, an economist with the Missouri Office of Public Counsel. That office is assigned to represent the interests of the public and ratepayers in issues before the Missouri Public Service Commission.

The forum is presented by Indy Energy, a local group that has worked to bring more attention to energy issues such as Independence Power and Light rates and programs to promote the use of solar energy. Saturday’s forum is scheduled to include discussion of the Independence City Council’s adoption this summer of a variety of goals, including a study of IPL rates.
