The 29th Annual Mayor’s Christmas Concert, a benefit for the Community Services League, will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Community of Christ Auditorium, 1001 W. Walnut St., Independence.
Independence Mayor Eileen Weir is the host and Dick Wilson from 94.9 KCMO radio is the master of ceremonies. The concert will feature performances by fourth grade students from the Independence School District, Nativity of Mary School, Center Place Restoration School and Messiah Lutheran School. Catherine Lynch, of the Independence School District, is the musical coordinator. The fourth grade choirs are directed by Helena Vasconcellos from Nativity of Mary School and accompanied by organist Joe Wilkinson.
The Spirit of Independence Band and the Truman and Van Horn High School choirs will also perform. Members of the Van Horn High School Junior ROTC and the William Chrisman ACE Club will serve as ushers for the event.
This concert is aimed at raising the awareness of those in need living in Independence. Since its inception in 1985, the concert has raised more than $285,000 for assistance programs and services that are administered through the Community Services League.
There is no charge to attend the concert; a free-will offering will be taken.
