COLUMBIA – Blue Springs South’s boys tennis team managed one win out of three matches at last weekend’s Rock Bridge Invitational, finishing sixth out of eight teams.
The Jaguars fell 9-0 to the host Bruins, beat Francis Howell North 5-4 and lost 7-2 to Columbia Hickman.
Dalton Michael, Cory Michael and Grant Scherer managed singles wins against Francis Howell North, each winning a first-set tiebreaker. Cory Michael then lost a second-set tiebreaker before claiming the third set in the decisive match. In doubles play, Kenny Xiao and Cory Michael teamed for one win and Scherer and Nic Myrick another.
Myrick managed a three-set singles win against Hickman, and Dalton Michael and Chase Klosener teamed for a doubles win.
“Everybody that came to the tournament won at least one match this weekend,” South coach Nathan Mooney said.
Luke Banks’ 91 paced the host Eagles to seventh out of 11 teams in Monday’s Grain Valley Tournament at Adams Pointe.
Platte County won the team title with a 334, followed by Marshall at 347. Grain Valley totaled 380 and Oak Grove (490) was 11th. Boonville’s Brett Windsor ran away with medalist honors, carding a 67 that was 10 strokes better than the next-best players.
After Luke Banks, the Eagles got 96s from Seth Banks and Sylas Hicks, a 97 from Jacob Feist and a 98 from Alec Hoover. Cameron Lauber’s 113 led Oak Grove.
