Voters in the Lee’s Summit School District on Tuesday easily approved a bond issue for safety and maintenance in schools as to move the Summit Technology Academy and Missouri Innovation Campus programs into a new, larger building.

The vote was 5,991 (79.23 percent) yes to 1,571 (20.77 percent) no, not including the Lake Winnebago portion of the district in Cass County.

The district and the University of Central Missouri jointly operate the Summit Technology Academy, which has more than 500 students. The district is putting $17.5 million into the new 140,000-square-foot space; that’s 40 percent of the cost. The university will pay the rest.
