Several area Hy-Vee stores today are taking part in an event to gather food for the Community Services League, which has food shelves across Eastern Jackson County.

High school students will be on hand for the Fill the Truck event. It’s the Truman Heartland Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council annual service project. Grocery shoppers are asked to donate items, and the students are aiming for 50,000 items.

The five Hy-Vee stories taking part include the ones at 4545 S. Noland Road in Independence and 601 West U.S. 40 in Blue Springs.
