In New Orleans, first full-dress Mardi Gras since 2020

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Revelers decked out in traditional purple, green and gold came out to party on Fat Tuesday in New Orleans’ first full-dress Mardi Gras since 2020. The fun includes back-to-back parades across the city and marches through the French Quarter and beyond, with masks against COVID-19 required only in indoor public spaces.

Strong start boosts Wildcats into district semifinal

Adam Jones’ Blue Springs boys basketball team dominated Sedalia Smith-Cotton any way one could imagine - offensively, defensively, on the boards and on the scoreboard. The Wildcats picked up an easier-than-expected 80-21 Class 6 District 7 first-round victory Monday night at Blue Springs High School.

Council airs questions on gas turbines

Although the Independence City Council approved the city utility moving forward with negotiations to buy two refurbished gas-powered turbines, the endorsement is a bit tepid. The council voted 4-3 Monday for the letter of intent for Power & Light to negotiate with ProEnergy for a “best and final offer” for two gas-powered turbines that can generate up to 84 megawatts and would replace Power & Light’s six aging combustion turbines engines.

Mary LaRose Majors, 96, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022. She was born in Melbourne, AR the daughter of John and Elsie (Gentry) Byram. She was united in marriage to Willard Dee Majors in 1947.
