Former spouses ready to try again after 16 years

Dear Abby: I reconnected with my ex-husband, “Liam,” a year ago, 16 years after our divorce. (We hadn’t seen or talked to each other during that time.) He’s remarried with four kids; I am single with two kids. We got married when we were young, but we’re now in our early 40s. We know what we want or don’t want in a partner, and know what we will/won’t put up with, etc.

Busting the myths of teens and exercise

Teenagers are busy people, their days are often filled with school, study, part-time jobs, learning to drive and finding time to keep on top of their Instagram feeds. This can make it seem like there aren’t enough hours in the day to exercise. When you combine this with some common misconceptions about exercise for adolescents, it becomes clear why rates of obesity, injury and mental health issues are climbing in our teens.

THE MURPHY BED

When the vast majority of your life is happening within the four walls of your home, every square foot counts. So the past two years have inspired some serious, space-saving creativity. • “Everybody all of a sudden was just surrounded by their environment, just sort of thinking, ‘If I’m going to be spending this much time here, I really want it to be great quality space,’ ” says interior designer and HGTV host Vern Yip. • Oddly enough, one popular strategy for creating multipurpose spaces at home in 2022 is an innovation born more than a century ago: the Murphy bed, a fully made bed emerging from a wall to instantly transform a living room into a bedroom. • New Jersey-based interior designer Karen Topjian remembers seeing Murphy beds in old black-and-white Hollywood movies and thinking they looked wonderfully glamorous. It seemed almost magical, she thought. Unlike a sofabed that requires moving cushions and some degree of assembly, Murphy beds have the superpower of transforming a space with just a single motion.

Council Member Huff is wrong to stand against public health

I was shocked when I first saw the numerous signs for Mike Huff for City Council, with the headline “Support Public Safety.” Wait – what? How can anyone say they support public safety when they oppose setting a rule for wearing masks in public places? The hypocrisy is so clear. Yes, we must support our Police Department and our Fire Department.

Rowland, DeLuccie will set the right direction for Independence

I have known Rory Rowland and Karen DeLuccie for over 30 years – Karen as my law partner for 20 years and Rory since he worked for the city years ago. I am strongly supporting their election because of their integrity and their commendable years of service, Rory as a state representative and Karen on the City Council and Planning Commission.

Weir has worked hard for first responders

I am voting for Eileen Weir for mayor because of her proven track record supporting Independence police and fire. All the candidates running in the February primary say they will prioritize public safety, but only Eileen Weir has done it.

Ken Love will listen and has plans for a better community

Ken Love believes “citizens are the life blood” of the city. He believes our personal needs demand as much consideration as economic decisions do. He believes balance is required for our city to flourish economically while the citizens build emotional strength and resilience. He and I believe he can achieve this, elected as mayor. Ken Love is:
