INDEPENDENCE - Scott Popp, age 61 of Independence, Mo passed away Jan 17, 2022, at his home. He was born Oct 6, 1960 in Independence, MO to Ted and Norma Popp. He is survived by his wife Carla Popp; his son Kyle Popp; grandchildren Mackenzie Popp and Brenton, Brandon, and Destiny Rodgers; his mother Norma Popp; sisters Debbie Vogel and Kelly Klotz; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Shaina Popp, father Ted Popp, and sister Karla Joseph. An informal visitation/celebration of life will be held at Newcomer’s Noland Road Chapel located at 509 S Noland Rd, Independence, MO 64050 on Saturday Jan 29, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00. The family is requesting masks for in-person attendees. KANSAS CITY - Wanda Geraldine“Jerry” Elliott, age 98, passed away on January 22, 2022 at Overland Park Regional Medical. She was born in rural Deepwater, Missouri on July 20, 1924 to Robert John and Iva May (Dodson) Kalberloh. Jerry spent her youth growing up on a farm north of Lowry City, Missouri. While there, she attended Valley Center Grade School, Lowry City High School and was a member of German Valley Church.

The diminished big screen still has its charms

I get the basic economics of the movie theater. They get a few bucks from you to walk in the door and then they really stick you with the captive-audience pricing for Cokes and popcorn, as if you were at an airport or football game. There must be an entire MBA class devoted to this highest expression of capitalism, the creation and maintenance of the captive market.

Eagles advance to semifinals of own tourney
