Stressed area hospitals hunt for ventilators

MISSION, Kan. (AP) — Doctors in Kansas and Missouri are hunting down ventilators and running out of monoclonal antibodies as COVID-19 patient counts hit pandemic highs at a growing number of hospitals.

Five to vie for two ISD school board seats

Five candidates will run for the two open seats on the Independence School District Board of Education in April’s election. It will be the first contested election since 2016, as Independence board members serve six-year terms and in 2018 and 2020 the number of candidates equaled the number of open seats.

AREA COVID-19 TESTING SITES

University Health: Regular testing hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Testing is available at both sites – the Lakewood campus at 7900 Lee’s Summit Road, Kansas City, and the Hospital Hill site at 2211 Charlotte, Kansas City.

Colonial images sideline Dutch ‘Golden Carriage’

THE HAGUE, Netherlands – The Dutch king ruled out Thursday using, for now at least, the royal family’s “Golden Carriage,” one side of which bears a painting that critics say glorifies the Netherlands’ colonial past, including its role in the global slave trade.
