• Annie Dear’s column in Wednesday's paper, “A modest proposal or two for the bleak days,” was mislabeled and had the wrong columnist’s photo. • In regard to an article in Tuesday’s Examiner, “One wounded in shooting close to Independence school,” a spokesperson for the Independence School District said parents were not notified about the shooting in a neighboring residential area as it was about 30 minutes before the school day started and the school did not go on lockdown..

Blue Springs police looking for possible officer impersonator

Blue Springs police are searching for a man who reportedly has been impersonating a law enforcement officer. Police said they've received several reports over the past six months of a man usually wearing a traffic vest jacket when he makes traffic stops – always in the dark and generally in Blue Springs, Grain Valley and surrounding communities.

Free pine cones at George Owens Nature Park

The staff at George Owens Nature Park, 1601 S. Speck Road, Independence, 816-325-7115, says a great number of pine cones have fallen from the eastern white pines this fall. The public is invited to pick up some cones for use in Christmas decorations.

Divorced dad carries torch 10 years later

Dear Abby: I am a 45-year-old divorced father of three. Two of them I share with my ex-wife. We were married for 14 years and have been divorced for 10 years now.
