Weather warnings get an upgrade

The Central Jackson County Emergency Management Agency says its upgraded storm siren system will give residents more automatic and geographically accurate severe weather warnings. The agency covers Blue Springs, Grain Valley and Lake Tapawingo and portions of unincorporated Jackson County that are within the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District.

State legislators oppose vaccine mandates

JEFFERSON CITY – At a time when the coronavirus remains a formidable threat, Missouri lawmakers are poised to debate a number of proposals that could affect efforts to get more people vaccinated. On Wednesday, the first day that members of the House and Senate could file legislation for the upcoming session, more than a half dozen bills were introduced that could prohibit vaccine mandates or allow "natural immunity" to be considered the equivalent of having been inoculated.

In-sync Eagles cruise into tourney final

McKenah Sears had a good laugh when the Grain Valley sophomore was asked if she, Finley LaForge and Grace Slaughter have been working on ESP (extra sensory perception). The question came after a 63-44 Grain Valley girls basketball victory over Raymore-Peculiar in the final pool play game of the 42nd annual Winnetonka Tournament, in which Slaughter scored 42 points, with most of them coming off pinpoint passes from her backcourt mates.
