Woman said to have shot relative turns herself in

A woman who allegedly shot a relative in the parking lot of a busy Independence restaurant Tuesday has turned herself in to police. Independence police say the suspect from Tuesday evening's shooting in the 54th Street Bar & Grill parking lot, which left one woman injured, turned herself in later Tuesday night.

Marie “Jaenette” Greene

INDEPENDENCE - Marie Jaenette (Gipson) Greene, 73, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2021. She was born on December 2, 1947 in Independence, MO to Aubrey and Letha Gipson. Jaenette attended school in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman high school in 1965 then attended some college. On July 2, 1967 she married fellow class mate George Robert (Bob) Greene. Jaenette spent several years with Bob in the Army until 1968, when he was discharged. She had a son, Loyd Edwin Gipson Greene whom she was very proud of. He passed away in 1996. She then worked a few jobs before taking on the role as Manager of Hills Flower Shop in Independence where she worked alongside of her mother. After that Jaenette spent nearly 22 years at WalMart on 39th st before having heart problems which forced her to retire. Jaenette and Bob had one great love and that was their 56 Chevy that she bought as a second car. Later it was restored and recently modernized for comfort and for the ease of driving. They traveled to many out of town events with the car and family. She also spent several years working with the Toys for Tots program doing childrens events in which her and Bob would try to totally fill up the Chevy with toys. She will be missed by all friends and customers she’s met over the years. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and her son Loyd. Jaenette is survived by her beloved husband Bob and many cousins and other relatives. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 6th from 6-8pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Jaenette’s funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 7th at 11am at the chapel as well. Burial to follow at Mount Washington Cemetery in Independence, Missouri. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Toys for Tots in memory of Jaenette.
