LAS VEGAS — First baseman Anthony Rizzo became a free agent again when he declined his $16 million option with the New York Yankees for 2023. Mets pitcher Chris Bassitt declined his $19 million option with the New York Mets and followed rotation mates Jacob deGrom and Taijuan Walker into free agency.

Elizabeth Jeanne Meyer of Independence passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospice House on Friday, November 4, 2022. Elizabeth, known to everyone as Bea, was born on August 25, 1943, to Agnes Wenzel Long and James Long. Bea was the only child of Agnes and they were inseparable until Agnes was called home to our Lord on March 4, 2001. During Bea’s childhood, she and Agnes (known as Aggie) lived on the family farm with the extended Wenzel family on the land on Blue Ridge Cutoff that later became Royals Stadium. Many happy times were had with cousins, aunts, uncles on the beautiful property and stories of these happy times have been shared for many years in the family. Bea was a faithful and dedicated lifelong member of the Catholic church, attending St. Michael’s grade school and Glennon High School. Bea married Joseph Meyer on December 28, 1963, and they would have celebrated 59 years of marriage in December 2022. Joe was a dedicated and loving husband, taking care of Bea in recent years. Bea and Joe were blessed with two daughters and four grandchildren - Shari (Jim) Keeney, children Josh (Megan Schwindler) Keeney, Erin (Jon Birchard) Keeney, Cindy (Mark) Cutlip, with twin daughters Elizabeth and Nicole. Bea’s grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and she and Joe attended countless softball, baseball games, dance recitals and numerous events to support her grandkids. In addition to Joe and daughters/grandkids Bea leaves behind a large group of cousins from the Wenzel family and two sisters-in-law and extended families from the Meyer family. After high school graduation in May 1960 Bea began a successful career as an Administrative Assistant and bookkeeper at The House of Commans, a wholesale diamond company located in Downtown KC. Bea was an excellent employee for the House of Commans as well for Shick Tube-Veyor Corporation later in her career, very detailed and thorough in all of her work.
