Jessica JoLynn Maloney, 41, passed away on October 30, 2022. Jessica was born on April 2, 1981, in Kansas City, Mo. to Gary and Sharon Mullendore. She attended St. Mary’s High School in the class of 1999. She married Nicholas Maloney on October 5, 2002, and they had one child, Gavin. Jessica was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She was a bookkeeper at Klinginsmith Autobody for many years. Jessica was a member of St. Mary’s Church. She loved spending time with family creating lasting memories especially on the trips to the beach. Jessica was tremendously caring, fun loving and was always there for you no matter the circumstances. She had the most beautiful smile and often shared that with others through her quirky sense of humor. Jessica always made people laugh, even total strangers. She was self-giving and always had a way to help people see the bright side. Jessica was a best friend to everyone, but what she loved most was being a mother. Jessica is survived by her son, Gavin Maloney; husband, Nick Maloney; mother, Sharon Cureton; siblings, Janel Mullendore, Tyler (Sheree) Mullendore, Nicholas Mullendore, Rachel (Richard Marks) Mullendore, Michelle Mullendore, Samuel Cureton, Madison Cureton; nieces and nephews, Carter Mullendore, Cade Mullendore, Jason Mullendore, Charles Marks, Abigail Mullendore-Groth; maternal grandparents, Ann Elgin, Jerry Zeller; paternal grandmother, Sandy Mullendore; father- and mother-in-law, Danny and Marsha Maloney. She is preceded in death by her father, Gary Mullendore and paternal grandfather, Gary Mullendore. A Rosary and Visitation was held Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Carson Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Rosary began at 5:30 p.m. and visitation between the hours of 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, November 4, 2022, at Nativity of Mary, 10021 E. 36th St., Independence, MO 64052. Mass will begin at 2:30 p.m. Jessica will be laid to rest in Mt. Oliv
Police officers from several agencies are investigating after an Independence officer shot a man who allegedly showed a handgun when police arrived a gas station on a disturbance call early Thursday. The shooting happened about 1 a.m.

JEFFERSON CITY — A planned state park along the Eleven Point River in southern Missouri will stay intact after the state Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an effort to block parts of the project. The Missouri Court of Appeals in Springfield earlier this year overturned a judgment by Oregon County Circuit Judge Steven Privette, which ordered the state to sell 625 acres along the river that is under a scenic easement.
A plan to search for unmarked graves at a former Native American boarding school is on hold amid a disagreement between a Shawnee Tribe and state and city officials overseeing the site. The Kansas Historical Society announced last year that the Kansas Geological Survey at the University of Kansas would conduct a ground-penetrating radar survey at the Shawnee Indian Mission in Fairway, Kansas.
