Bonny Anne McGraw Ward

Bonny Anne McGraw Ward, 39, passed away peacefully at home on April 29, 2022. She is survived by her son Jude, her mom Sue Akin, her dad Dan McGraw, and her brother Noah McGraw, all of Independence, MO. Bonny is also survived by her husband Tim Ward, many aunts, uncles, cousins and a stepmother, Carol McGraw. She had a countless number of friends she also considered her very close family. Bonny was born in Kansas City, MO on May 8, 1982. She attended Messiah Lutheran Day School, St. Mary’s High School and graduated in 2000 from Chrisman High School. Bonny was also a graduate and a beloved and inspiring instructor for many years at Independence College of Cosmetology.

Margaret Jo Zeller

Margaret Jo Zeller, 93, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, May 9, 2022 at the Meyer Care Center in Higginsville, MO. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church in Independence, MO. Private inurnment will be held at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethel Baptist Church or One Community Hospice. Margaret was born February 10, 1929 in Wichita Falls, TX to Rankin and Mary (Adams) Prichard and graduated from New Franklin High School in New Franklin, MO. She was a beloved wife, mother, and homemaker and had worked for over 20 years for Sears, Roebuck & Co. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, gardening, collecting dolls, cooking, crocheting and especially spending time with her family. Margaret loved this time of year when new life was blooming. She will be missed by many. Margaret never met a stranger. If you asked her how she was, she might say, “Fine as Frog Hair!” Margaret had a strong faith and was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Rod Zeller and wife Joan of Lexington, MO and a grandson, Robby Zeller of Lexington, MO. The case for active investment management

If I’m honest, the past decade or so have not been great for investors who actively manage or diversify their accounts. Many like Warren Buffet who espouse the strategy of simply buying low-cost S&P index funds have done very well, especially since 2009. With the nearly unprecedented run our nation’s largest tech companies have had over the past decade, it is understandable why this methodology of investing has grown in popularity.

Missouri’s dysfunctional General Assembly got little done again this year

The 2022 regular session of the Missouri General Assembly was the most dysfunctional I can remember in more than 50 years covering the statehouse. Endless Senate filibusters stalled action for weeks on major issues for Missourians -- contributing to the second lowest percentage of bills passed in an annual session in more than one-third of a century.
