WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden pledged an additional $1.3 billion Thursday for new weapons and economic assistance to help Ukraine in its strong but increasingly difficult battle against the Russian invasion, and he promised to seek much more from Congress to keep the guns, ammunition and cash flowing.
Melvin Leroy Howell passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2022 in Independence, Missouri. He was 79. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 29th at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence, Missouri. A reception will immediately follow at the chapel.

Players and staff from the Sporting Kansas City soccer team, as well as member of the Greater Kansas City Community Gardens more than a dozen volunteers total worked with some regular gardeners Tuesday afternoon to spruce up the Sugar Creek Community Garden. The effort by Sporting KC is part of Major League Soccer’s annual Greener Goals of Service Week. Volunteers helped build and fill two new raised beds for the Sugar Creek garden, as well as enhance its existing raised beds. Sugar Creek’s Community Garden has been used for nine years now, co-director Sandy Mikulich said, and has a similar number of regular gardeners renting spots.
