John William Tann, 76, of Independence, Missouri passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 11, 2022. John was born to William “Bill” and Lucille Tann on January 2, 1946, in Independence, Missouri.

Wilber Jean Kephart

Wilber Jean Kephart, 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Holden, Missouri on March 17, 2022. He was a leader in the Jersey cattle industry until his retirement when he enjoyed volunteering at Powell Gardens. Jean was preceded in death by his parents MJ and Nellie Kephart, his sister Laureen Bransteitter of Independence, and his wives Margaret Gard Bullard, Laura Belle Martin and Helen Jackson Barbour. He is survived by his nieces, Doris (Willie) Kirst and Jo (John) Ready, both of Independence; a stepson and 3 stepdaughters: Russell (Sharon) Barbour of Fortuna, Pamela Coontz of Versailles, Marsha (Joseph) Rodriguez of Raytown, and Patricia (Armin) Meyer of Cole Camp; 3 sisters-in-law; many more nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Missouri House leaders offer tax rebate plan

As the annual income tax filing deadline approaches on Friday, Republican legislative leaders have announced a plan to use $1 billion from the state’s historic surplus for tax rebates. Under a bill introduced Monday, single income tax filers would receive a $500 credit and married couples a $1,000 credit if they lived in the state for all of 2021.

J.W. Gipson, 97 of Independence, MO., formerly of Macon, MO. passed away peacefully on Thursday the 7th of April, 2022. J.W. was born in Callao, MO to Ola Mae Gipson and James “Jimmie” Granvil Gipson on February 2, 1925 and was the only brother to Dora Bloomberg and Fern Haskin.
