Marvin Sands, Independence To the editor: Missouri voters almost since the invention of time and especially under our state constitution have had the freedom to petition our government for the purpose of passing laws or reforms that would improve how our state government functions day to day, week to week, month to month and year to year. Generally speaking, initiative petitions are a fundamental right of the people to place upon the ballot issues reserved to the people that would be outside the authority of the General Assembly.

Brent Burgess of Independence, MO, passed away, peacefully, after a courageous, two month battle against Covid 19 at Select Services Hospital in Springfield, MO, February 24, 2022 at age 56. He was fun loving, likable and will be missed by many. He was born August 20, 1965 to Tom and Sharon (Ferguson) Burgess in Independence, MO. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Milton and Sharon Hessefort, son, Connor E Burgess and daughter Kaitlyn Garrett, brother, Kent Hessefort (Suzanne) and sisters, Amanda Peterson (Casey), Leigh Ann Lewis, Cyndi Fromholtz (Joe), Kristy Harper(Dan). He was preceded in death by his father, paternal and maternal grandparents Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be at a later date. Donations to Kansas City Pet Project.

Falcons’ Ridley suspended for ‘22 for bets on NFL games

ATLANTA — Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended for the 2022 season for betting on NFL games in 2021. The suspension announced by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday is for activity that took place while Ridley was away from the team addressing mental health concerns.
