America’s brighter picture on COVID-19

Tuesday night’s State of the Union address marked a turning point even before President Joe Biden opened his mouth. The mere sight of the president entering the House chamber without a mask captured the improved state of the pandemic in America. The White House followed up Wednesday with a new strategy that marks a smarter approach at this stage of fighting COVID-19.

Vietta Garr played an important role in the Truman and Wallace families

Vietta Garr is not a household name. However, for Bess and Harry Truman, Vietta Garr was literally a household name. In March, which is Women’s History Month, it is fitting that Garr receive recognition for the important and little-known role she played in the lives of Harry, Bess and Margaret Truman, and of Bess’s mother, Madge Gates Wallace. Garr, who was African- American, also deserves a belated recognition during Black History Month, which was in February.

Edward S. Murray, 81, Independence, MO, went home to be with Jesus, March 1, 2022. Visitation from 6-8pm on Sun, March 6th at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St.; Indep, MO. Funeral: 10am Mon, March 7th, also at the Chapel. Interment: Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City.

Lawrence “Larry” Hoover

We gather to celebrate our beloved Lawrence “Larry” Hoover, born February 14, 1951, and left this world February 24, 2022. Larry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Luanne Hoover. His children Alicia, Jeffrey, and Samuel Hoover and their spouses. Larry’s siblings, Lynn, Lorain, Leah, and Lorretta and their spouses. 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Preceded in death with Larry is his son Joshua Hoover, his parents Lee and Lois, and his sister Linda. Larry was a devoted christian, husband, father, and brother. He loved people and traveling. Larry was loved and respected by many, including influencing his children’s childhood friends. After graduating in 1969 from William Chrisman HS, he went on to marry Luanne. He became a master cabinet maker. Larry owned and operated a cabinet shop for over 30 years. He made art of his work. Larry was an unforgettable, remarkable man. He will be greatly missed. Memorial service to be held at Cornerstone Community Church, March 12th. Visitation at 10 am. Service at 11 am.
