Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year, begins on Sunday evening (Sept. 25), and the people in my house would get pretty ornery if I skipped the holiday’s traditional brisket or kugel. But I also like to change up some dishes, like sides and desserts.
Serves 8 Cinnamon Sugar Topping: • ¼ cup sugar • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Coffee Cake: • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour • 2 teaspoons baking powder • ½ teaspoon salt • 1/3 cup sugar • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature • 2 large eggs • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla • 2/3 cup whole milk • 1 large apple, peeled and roughly chopped 1. Adding thin slices of steak to a taco makes a tasty and quick homecooked weeknight meal. You can serve these tacos flat, and each person can make and fold their own.
• 6 hamburger buns • ½ pound ham • 6 slices baby Swiss cheeses • ½ can onion and chive cream cheese spread Sauce • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard • 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes • 1½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce • 1/3 cup brown sugar • 6 tablespoons butter, melted Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread 1 tablespoon sauce mix on one side of bun.
