Ken Garten: Businesses have to navigate new transparency law

In my last column we looked at the Corporate Transparency Act, a new federal law that requires pretty much all business entities formed under state law, such as limited liability companies and corporations, to file ownership declarations with the United States Department of Treasury, Financial Crimes Network. This legislation’s stated purpose is to monitor money laundering and tax evasion through the nefarious formation and use of such state-law-formed entities by individuals.
