As discussion continues in Independence about a proposed new community recreation center in the current area of City Hall and the police headquarters, some consultants suggest such a facility should appeal to multiple generations, with some large courts, exercise areas and a year-round aquatics area. That would be a slight departure from more of a fieldhouse-type facility capable of hosting large tournaments that tap into a youth sports tourism industry, an idea that also has been floated as the city works to finalize a bond issue likely to go to the voters next April.
