Although in his 80s, Meyer Music owner Ted Meyer still comes into the Blue Springs office regularly to handle some duties. On his desk, next to his nameplate, is the nameplate for co-founder Betty Meyer, his wife of 62 years who died last August.

Fatal attack on KC firefighter spotlights paramedic safety
Self-defense training for firefighters and paramedics/EMTs is not an established nationwide policy or program, though first responders with the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District have some policies and methods to reduce the chance of a violent encounter with a patient. Nathan Manley, assistant chief with the fire district that covers much of Blue Springs and Grain Valley and operates its own ambulances, said a few times a year ambulance personnel have to employ physical restraint straps or administer a mild sedative.
