Area sees gains against spread of COVID

By The Examiner staff The Centers for Disease Control has announced new standards for community level transmission of COVID-19, and the continued drops in new cases and hospitalizations place Jackson County at the “medium” level – the middle of three levels. But although the county as a whole is at medium by CDC metrics, the Independence Health Department still considers the city’s transmission rate to be high.

A good start for little readers

Pre-kindergarten age children in the Independence School District can now receive books regularly thanks in part to country music legend Dolly Parton. The school district on Tuesday announced its affiliation with Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a foundation that for a quarter-century has distributed books to young children to foster reading enjoyment.
