Independence sees ‘new chapter’ with road bonds

After the partial excitement that Independence voters approved one of three general obligation bond issues – $55 million for additional work on streets, sidewalks, bridges and culverts – and nearly approved another, City Manager Zach Walker repeated an election-night sentiment that this year’s bond issue campaign might only be the first the city considers. “I think we’d be irresponsible if we didn’t,” Walker said Wednesday.

Blue Springs student graduates from Emporia State University Aliyah Bello of Blue Springs was one of nearly 400 students who graduated from Emporia State University following the fall 2024 semester. Bello graduated with a master’s degree in health, physical education and coaching from the school in Emporia, Kansas.
