Ron Finke: The storm has passed, but what’s being done now?

A couple weeks ago, I traveled with nine other volunteers from greater Kansas City to Burnsville, Yancey County, North Carolina, to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Although it has been over four months since the area of western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee was hit with what could be called a 1,000-year rain storm, one can hardly identify much progress in bringing the community back to a semblance of normality.

State legislators work to keep Royals, Chiefs in Missouri; one key leader calls on Jackson County to come up with a plan

Two state senators are laying the groundwork for Clay County to compete for a new Chiefs training facility or Royals stadium, while the top Republican in the Missouri House is imploring Jackson County leaders to come up with a new plan to keep the teams from leaving the state. Both teams publicly expressed interest in moving from Missouri to Kansas after Jackson County voters rejected a proposal last year to extend a three-eighths-cent sales tax to help finance a downtown Kansas City baseball stadium and upgrades to Arrowhead Stadium.
