The Truman Presidential Library in Independence will have two special events Monday to mark Presidents Day, with historical reenactors portraying Abraham Lincoln and Harry Truman and the annual Bess Wallace Tea, honoring the first lady whose 140th birthday was Thursday. The Presidents Day events are free and open to the public and do not include regular museum admission.
After filming this summer in Independence and Kansas City for the Hallmark movie “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” and meeting many Chiefs fans, actor Tyler Hynes felt the need to meet and celebrate with them this week if the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. That required planning before knowing the game result.
Independence officials still plan to move ahead next week with a long-planned improvement project around the Square, even though it has not yet received consent from Jackson County for a portion of that project.
The city of Independence is considering a code change to allow long stays at certain hotels, provided those hotels have kitchenettes and those guests re-register after 30 days.
Community Services League’s drop-in shelter at Good Shepherd Community of Christ, 4341 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City, will be available as a warming shelter from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.
If Independence voters approve Question 3 from the bond issue on the April 8 ballot, the Independence Athletic Complex could be transformed into a soccer complex.
