Missouri House speaker says 'bounty hunter' immigration bill has little chance of passing

There is no appetite among House Republicans for a bill that would put a bounty on undocumented immigrants, Speaker Jon Patterson told reporters Thursday. The legislation, which was debated Tuesday in a Missouri Senate committee, would award a $1,000 bounty for tips that result in the arrest of a person present in the United States without authorization.

Missouri utilities push legislation to charge for upfront costs to build gas plants

Missouri’s two largest electric utilities want the state’s permission to charge customers for natural gas power plants before they’re completed. Both Evergy and Ameren Missouri asked the Missouri House Utilities Committee on Wednesday to support legislation that would allow them to charge customers for natural, or methane, gas power plants even before they’re completed, saying the state needs more electrical power.
