Shirley Glee Callen was born January 25, 1924, in Wagoner, OK. She peacefully left this life to be with the Lord on October 12, 2022, while sitting in her wheelchair in front of a sunny window. Glee was first married to Robert Bailey who died early in WWII. To their union Kent Bailey was born. He is deceased now. Following the war, she married Earl Clayton Callen. Their two sons are Rodney and Phillip. Earl Clayton passed away in 1998. During most of her life, Glee made her home in Independence, Missouri, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She had many dear friends and neighbors there including her Bible Study friends who were like family. She never met a Stanger, always offered a helping hand, celebrated every holiday, loved bright colors and flowers, eating out, and dark chocolate. Surviving family includes sons Rodney (Glenna) of Drexel, Missouri and Phillip (Kerry) of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren include Shanna (Tom) Mundell, Michael Bailey, Staci Bailey, Matthew (Julie) Callen, Clayton (Sara) Callen, Michael (Jody) Garner, and Jeff Callen. She also leaves behind 18 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren. A visitation for Shirley will be held Monday, October 17, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 500 W Truman Rd, Independence, Missouri 64050. A funeral service will occur Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Committal service will be at Mound Grove Cemetery, 1818 N River Blvd, Independence, Missouri 64050. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Independence, Missouri. Services under the direction of Newcomer’s Noland Rd Chapel, Independence, MO.
William (Bill) Robert Lingo, Jr., 83, of Independence, Mo., passed away October 11, 2022, at The Groves Nursing Home. There will be a private memorial service for the family with burial at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery at Higginsville, Mo., in the Spring.
Vaiolini (Pauga) Iosua, 75, Independence, Mo. passed away October 6, 2022, at her residence. Vaiolini was born August 13, 1947, in Letogo, Apia, Western Samoa. She had so many talents. She was a loving homemaker and seamstress. She was known for her cooking and baking especially in the Samoan community. She loved music and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is survived by her six children, Laura Iosua, Maselina (Sione) Lauaki, Gese (Tommy Sa’o), Eleanor Iosua, Vaiolini (Joshua) Poli, and Olaea (Salataima) Iosua of Independence; three brothers, Tolouli Pauga of Australia, Ao Pauga of Canada and Fuga Pauga of New Zealand; and 19 grandchildren. Vaiolini was preceded in death by her husband, Nofoaiga Iosua in 2019, six brothers, four sisters and a grandchild, Suresa Iosua in 2007. Funeral services will be at 12 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Independence Stake Center, 705 W Walnut St, Independence, MO 64050. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
