Marilyn Jean Farrell

Marilyn Jean Farrell, 83, of Independence, Mo. went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 22, 2022. A Celebration of Life to honor Marilyn will be held Friday, August 5, 2022, at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Her children will greet family and friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m., service at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Donations in her honor to Wounded Warrior Project.

Richard Vance Reeves, Jr.

Richard Vance Reeves, Jr. of Independence, Mo., a father and man who loved the lord passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2022. He was 73 years young. Richard entered this world September 8, 1948 in Pittsburgh, Penn. His parents were members of the RLDS church and decided to move to Independence when he was five years old. Richard chose to join the Marines right after graduating high school and was shipped off to Vietnam. His time in Vietnam was when he was brought closer to God. Richard loved sports and watching his daughters play. Once Richard was given grandkids, he loved watching them play and tried diligently to not miss a game. Richard was actively involved in his church. He loved bringing the gospel to all and traveled the country preaching to various congregations. He was always willing to bring the word of God to anyone asking. Richard loved playing the guitar and loved playing music to anyone that would listen. He played in a Bluegrass band for as long as his hands would hold up. Richard loved his family and was non wavering in his faith. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Richard V. Reeves, Sr and Ethel Bollinger. Richard is survived by his daughters Angela Fidler, Christine Meyers and Alicia Reeves. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 4 at South Crysler Restoration Church located at 16101 E Salisbury Rd., Independence, MO 64050 at 10 a.m. and a service will follow. Lois Delene (Petree) Charles, 94, of Independence, Mo., passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Oak Grove, Mo. Cremation is planned and a celebration of her life to be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, Independence. Inurnment will be in Mt. Washington Cemetery.

Donald Lee Dourty

Donald Lee Dourty, 96, of Independence, MO., passed away July 21, 2022. Mr. Dourty was born January 11, 1926, in Rosedale, Kan., to Charles E. and Audry Dourty. He was a lifelong resident of Independence. He served in WWII in the South Pacific. When he returned, he met and married Evelyn A. Fletcher on March 29, 1949. They raised two sons, Bob and Don. Donald was active in Boy Scouts for 13 years with both sons attaining Eagle Scout. He retired in 1986 after 40 years with Kansas City Southern Railroad. He enjoyed fishing, camping and travel all over the United States with his wife Evelyn. He was baptized into the RLDS church.
