Shirley (Lee) Simmons

Shirley (Lee) Simmons passed away on July 17, one day before her 96th birthday. Lee is preceded in death by her husband Eldon J Simmons. Lee grew up in Detroit, Mich., but lived in Independence, Mo. for over 60 years. Married to Eldon J Simmons for 74 years.

Vivian Irene Kilgore

Vivian Irene Kilgore, 83, of Independence, Mo. passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Rosewood Health Center. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2022, at the Carpenter Cemetery in Chilhowee, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carpenter Cemetery Association. Vivian was born December 9, 1938, in Blairstown, Mo. to Glenn and Irene (Ward) Wehmeyer. She lived in Chilhowee for a number of years and later moved to Clinton and then to Kansas City, Kan. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker most of her life. She has lived the past 10 years in The Groves where she would help new residents adjust. She was very outgoing and enjoyed volunteering her time. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Chilhowee. Survivors include; a son, Michael Strong and wife Alisa of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Marjorie Rector of Raytown, Mo. and many cousins and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cecil Kilgore who passed away in 2002, a son, Gregory Kilgore who passed away in 2007 and a brother Kenneth Wehmeyer. Alice Ann Belscamper

Alice Ann Belscamper, April 30, 1940 - July 6, 2022, was the youngest child of Earl B. and Altha (Koehler) Belscamper. She lived her entire life in Independence and attended the Stone Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Surviving are five nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and -nephews. Family will re ceive friends from 12-1 p.m. on Tuesday July 26, 2022, at The Groves in Independence. Carolyn Elaine Russum

Carolyn Elaine Russum, 87, of Bolivar, Mo. passed away at her home on Thursday, July 14, 2022. Carolyn was born to Lamont and Mildred Magargee on July 14, 1935, in Independence, Mo. She was a woman of faith, spent many years of her life as the ultimate caregiver and was active within her church at the RLDS Restoration Branch at the Mt. Washington and E. 39th St. congregations. Carolyn met her beloved husband, Gerald, at a young age, was married and to this union came five children. She was blessed to be able to stay home and care for them most of their lives. Carolyn was also a talented artist. She enjoyed creating beautiful oil and charcoal paintings of landscapes and creating sketches. Her kind heart and soft spirit will be missed greatly. Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Terry Shelton (Steven), Kathy Longanecker (Clay) and Laura McCauley (John); eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She’s preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; son, Gerald Russum Jr. and daughter, Julie Ann Russum-Snider. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 at the chapel. Carolyn’s final resting place will be at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Carolyn’s memory.
