Letter to the editor: Independence voters take a needed step

Blue Springs voters go to the polls Tuesday to decide on bonds for street work.
For years in this space, we have added our voice to the conversation about what works, what fails and what needs to work a whole lot better in the American experiment in self-government.
I was recently contacted by a member of the Independence City Council to determine if I was supporting the various charter amendments on the Aug. 6 ballot. I had not really studied all of the amendments, but I knew from a previous conversation that there was one ballot proposition that I could not support.
One bad idea on the ballot Tuesday is Missouri Amendment 4.
One thing voters in Independence will see on the Aug. 6 ballot is a series of changes to update the City Charter. In general, these are good-government changes that make sense.
