Independence officials are appropriately offering a glass-half-full assessment of Tuesday’s election results. Voters said yes to $55 million in general obligation bonds – a first for the city – to address lousy road and bridge conditions and chip away at the city’s massive deficit of sidewalks.
Missouri legislators appear unlikely – again – to take any action to limit, ban, regulate or tax the illegal slot machines that have proliferated in gas stations and elsewhere across the state in recent years.
There is a great deal of stress among the leaders of the local nonprofit sector due to the uncertainty with federal government funding. Let’s take a moment to explore the reasons for that stress and the complex relationship between nonprofits and federal funding.
