A senior leader celebrated a special Senior Night at the Grain Valley Invitational while a young teammate shattered the record book and now ranks among the top javelin throwers in the nation. Grain Valley senior Avery Huffman ran away from the field to break the meet record in the 400 meters with a time of 59.61 seconds, while sophomore McKenah Sears had a “monster” throw of 43.96 meters to crush the meet record and her personal best by two meters.

Late Houston Oilers coach Bum Phillips was once asked about Hall of Famer Earl Campbell, one of the most punishing running backs in the history of the league. Phillips responded by saying, “Earl may not be in a class by himself, but it don’t take long for roll call.” Grain Valley junior Grace Slaughter finds herself in the same position, as she has earned her third consecutive Examiner Girls Basketball Player of the Year Award following a sensational 2012-22 season that was unfortunately cut short by a torn ACL right before the playoffs.

Twins Jace and Ellie Stickley and their older brother Gage were counting the minutes and seconds until the Kansas City Comets completed an 8-7 victory over the Florida Tropics in the semifinal round of the Major Arena Soccer League playoffs.

Most Kansas City Chiefs fans seem to turn into a general manager the last weekend in April. The draft next week will be watched closely by those with an interest in the Chiefs franchise.
