Mavericks fall in OT in road trip opener

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Kansas City Mavericks were able to overcome a disastrous second period Wednesday. Despite two goals from John Schiavo and a shorthanded Ben Johnson goal to tie it, the Mavericks still lost the first of a three-game set in Utah as the Grizzlies claimed a 5-4 overtime win in an ECHL Mountain Division matchup Wednesday night at the Maverik Center.
