What to look for in conference swim finals

Local high school girls swimming and diving teams begin their last push for a state berth and seek conference bragging rights this weekend. Blue Springs, Blue Springs South, Lee’s Summit North and Lee’s Summit West will compete in the Suburban Big Eight Championships at Lee’s Summit Aquatic Center, while Grain Valley, Truman and William Chrisman will compete in the Suburban Middle Six Championships at Belton High School.

‘Door opening’: Former Jaguar Horn to lead Titans

After learning he would not be the new football head coach at his alma mater, Willie Horn saw another door open. Just two weeks after he learned that he would not get the job at Blue Springs South High School, the former Jaguars standout and assistant coach has been recommended as the new football head coach at Lee’s Summit West High School, pending approval of the LSR7 school board, which meets next Thursday.

Locked out MLB players reject offer of mediation NEW YORK – Locked out players rejected Major League Baseball’s request for a federal mediator to enter stalled labor negotiations, a move that pretty much eliminated any chance for an ontime start to spring training and increased the work stoppage’s threat to opening day. One day after MLB asked for help from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the Major League Baseball Players Association on Friday ruled out a third party trying to assist the fractured sport’s warring factions.
