Big ‘Whoop’: Jenkins’ pass helps Wildcats stave off Titans

Kayleigh Jenkins not only played a key role in Blue Springs’ 57-51 win over visiting Lee’s Summit West Wednesday, she created a pass that will forever be known as “The Whoop.” Lee’s Summit West had cut the Wildcats’ lead to 47-38 with 2:46 left in the fourth quarter when Jenkins came up with a steal at midcourt. As she drove to the basket, she came up with a creative pass to teammate Nikole Schnell, who hit a layup to bring the lead back to double digits.

One step forward, one step back in ’21

COLUMBIA, Mo. — A month before his second season at Missouri ended with a loss to Army in the Armed Forces Bowl, coach Eli Drinkwitz took stock in how far the Tigers had come on his watch. Heading into the regularseason finale, at Arkansas, the Tigers had secured bowl eligibility but fell short of reaching the preseason’s most ambitious projections.

‘That’s Korey’

Few people inside Van Horn High School saw Korey Messick’s classiest performance Tuesday night. The Falcons claimed a 73-43 nonconference home victory over Oak Grove, in which Messick played less than a half and scored a game-high 23 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and combined with Brycen Dean to allow just 10 Panther points in the paint.
